CapCut vs Vyond vs Kapwing in 2026: Which Online Video Editor Fits Your Business, With Prices Checked in November

CapCut earned its reputation on phones, and the web version keeps the same instinct for speed. Open a new project, pick a template, drop in your footage and you have something that looks native to TikTok within a few minutes. When we tested the free web editor, templates applied in one click with no paywall at all. That alone explains why so many people searching for a video editor online free end up here.

What the free account actually gives you

Out of the box, a free CapCut account came with 100 AI credits. Generating a short AI video clip cost 5 of them, so you can experiment without paying. A few other details stood out:

• Export: The default is 720p at 30fps, but you can push it to 1080p and 60fps without hitting a Pro badge.
• Publishing: You can post straight to TikTok, YouTube Shorts, a Facebook Page and Instagram Reels, and scheduling posts is free.
• Captions: Auto captions carry a Pro badge, although clicking Generate did not stop us with a paywall. You can also upload your own .srt or .ass subtitle file.
• Sharing: Shared spaces let you invite people by email as editors or viewers, and there is a brand kit for logos and colors.

Where CapCut gets in the way

The web editor lagged on our machine, tutorial tooltips kept popping back up, and upgrade offers appeared constantly. None of that is fatal, but it adds up when you edit every day.

Collaboration is the bigger question. In a thread on r/CapCut, users trying CapCut Teams described downloading and uploading projects again so that only one person edits at a time, which is not really collaboration. National University's Project Access team made a similar call publicly. They started on CapCut, found it confusing to train new student editors on and not collaborative enough, and moved to Kapwing.

What it costs

On November 3, 2026, CapCut's US web pricing page showed Free at USD 0, Pro at USD 19.99 a month, Ultra at USD 79 a month and Teams at USD 12.49 per seat a month. In October the yearly Pro price was $179.99, with 1,200 AI credits a month. Prices change a lot by country: Pro monthly ranged from about $11 in Vietnam to about $27 in France, and CapCut notes that final prices only appear after you sign in.

Two other changes matter for a business buyer. First, there is now a Standard plan, but only inside the iOS and Android apps. CapCut's help center describes it as mobile focused with 100GB of storage, while Pro covers mobile, desktop and web with 1TB. Second, if you are in the US, the current CapCut terms, last updated April 15, 2026, name TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC as the company you contract with. Read them if your legal or IT team cares about who holds your project files.

My take: CapCut is the right pick for one person making short vertical videos who cares more about speed than polish. Once a second editor joins, it starts to strain.

Vyond is not really a competitor to CapCut. It solves a different problem. Instead of trimming footage you already shot, you build scenes out of characters, props and text. That makes it a strong fit for onboarding videos, training modules and product explainers, the kind of content where a cartoon presenter feels normal and a shaky selfie video does not.

The character builder is the real draw

Rued Riis, a Vyond trainer who compared the major character creators side by side, found Vyond had the deepest libraries: five body types, 147 tops, 71 bottoms and 35 pairs of shoes, far more than Powtoon or Animaker. The detail that matters most for video branding is color. Vyond lets you enter exact hex codes, so a presenter's jacket can match your brand kit precisely. As Riis points out, you will never make a 2D character look exactly like a real person, but matching the outfit to your brand colors builds a subconscious link that works surprisingly well.

Vyond Go and the free plan

Vyond Go turns a prompt, document, script or URL into a draft video. In our test it produced a talking head avatar with text on screen in about 40 seconds, with layouts for Talking head, Conversation and Narration. The free plan, however, is a trial more than a tier:

• Three videos: The dashboard counts down from 3 and asks you to upgrade to make more and remove the watermark.
• Credits run out fast: Each Vyond Go generation cost about 800 credits, and the free account started with 2,000, so you get roughly two attempts.
• Exports are paid: MP4 and WEBM downloads at 720p and 1080p were all locked, and so was sharing by link.

What it costs

Vyond's pricing page on November 3, 2026 listed Starter at US$99 a month billed monthly, or US$58 a month billed annually ($699 a year), for a single user with 10,000 credits, 100 downloads a month and videos up to 25 minutes long. Professional was US$100 a month per user billed annually ($1,199 a year), with 20,000 credits, 200 downloads a month and videos up to 40 minutes, and that is the first plan with team collaboration. Enterprise and Agency plans sit above it. Exports top out at 1080p. With Vyond Go drafts costing around 800 credits each in our test, Starter works out to about 12 generations a month.

My take: Vyond is worth the money if animation is the product, for example a training library or a series of explainers. As a general editor for social posts it is overkill and expensive.

Kapwing feels closest to a document editor. Projects live online, you send a link, and your manager can open it on their own laptop and leave comments right in the editor. For small business marketing teams where three people touch every video, that one habit removes a surprising amount of friction.

What worked in our test

Signup was a code sent by email, no password. The home screen opens with an AI prompt and shortcuts for subtitles, translation, trimming by transcript, AI clips, text to speech and resizing. Auto subtitles on a 7 second clip took about 25 seconds, used 1 of the 10 free credits, and came back accurate.

The built in recorder is a quiet strength. Minvo, which makes a competing editor, still gave Kapwing credit here: if you notice a missing section halfway through an edit, you can record it inside Kapwing and it lands in your timeline. There is no need to record elsewhere, download and upload again.

The catches

• Paywall at export: Smart Cut, which removes silences, can be previewed for free, but you have to upgrade to export a project that uses it.
• Free exports are small: 720p with a Kapwing watermark, a 4 minute maximum per export and 30 export minutes a month. Files on the free plan are only kept for 3 days.
• Learning curve: Minvo found that reframing a guest in a two person shot took a lot of manual cropping and dragging. That is a competitor's view, but it matches our sense that Kapwing rewards people who invest time in learning where things are.

Online versus desktop, by the numbers

Kapwing ran its own experiment against Final Cut Pro on a 2019 MacBook Pro, so treat it as a vendor test. Battery drain was identical, 40 minutes from 51% to 1% in both. The browser used about 33 to 37% of the CPU while Final Cut swung much higher. A 12 minute export came out at around 26 MB, and because the export runs on Kapwing's servers you can close the tab and come back later. If your laptop is old, that matters more than any feature list.

What it costs

On November 3, 2026, Kapwing's pricing page showed Pro at $16 a month and Business at $50 a month. In our October check those were the rates with yearly billing, and monthly billing was $24 for Pro and $64 for Business. Pro includes 1,000 credits, no watermark, exports up to 2 hours, 4K, 200GB of storage and a brand kit plus shared workspace. Business adds 4,000 credits, 800GB of storage and voice clones. Kapwing says there is no free trial of the paid plans, and Pro is priced per member, so a team of four pays four times.

Every one of these tools markets itself as free video editing software. In practice, "free" means something different in each.

Where each free plan stops

• CapCut: The most generous of the three in our test. Templates, 1080p export settings and post scheduling were all open. We did not complete a full export, so we cannot confirm whether a watermark appears.
• Vyond: Three videos with a watermark, and every MP4 download option was locked. Think of it as a demo.
• Kapwing: Usable for short clips, but 720p, watermarked, capped at 4 minutes per export, with files deleted after 3 days.

Entry level paid plans at a glance

• CapCut Pro: USD 19.99 a month on the US web page (November 3, 2026), $179.99 a year in our October check, with prices varying by country and by app store.
• Kapwing Pro: $16 a month on the November pricing page, which was the yearly billing rate in October, or $24 billed monthly, per member.
• Vyond Starter: US$99 a month, or $699 a year billed annually, single user.

The credit trap

All three now run AI features on credits, and the credits are where budgets drift. A Vyond Go draft cost about 800 credits. A Kapwing subtitle job on a few seconds of video cost 1 credit, which sounds trivial until you remember the free plan only has 10. CapCut's Pro credits even differ by country: 1,200 a month in the US, 800 in Japan. Before you commit, run your real weekly workload through the free tier and count what it consumes.

A practical rule: if your videos are short, vertical and made by one person, CapCut costs the least. If several people review every cut, Kapwing's per member price buys you the workflow. If you need animation, Vyond is the only one of the three that really does it, and you pay for that.

Here is the part most comparisons skip. The editor you choose matters less than what you feed it. A rambling twelve minute take needs heavy cutting in any tool. A clean three minute take needs almost none. That is why I would start with the recording and treat the editor as the second step.

Which editor fits which goal

• Reach on TikTok and Reels: CapCut, for its templates and direct posting.
• Training and explainers without a presenter: Vyond, for characters you can dress in your brand colors.
• A team that reviews every video: Kapwing, for shared links, comments and a common brand kit.

Where BIGVU fits

BIGVU is built for the people in the video, especially when personal branding is the point. When you do want CapCut's trending effects or Kapwing's team review, you start from a clean, captioned clip instead of a raw file.

Comparison videos are getting easier
